These days I have got a new Samsung Galaxy Gio (S5660) and decided to connect to my PC, to synchronize my pictures. As you can already imagine, I couldn't do it, from the first time. Next I will explain, my history what have I met and the silly things I have met till I connected my Samsung.
Input: Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660, Micrososft Windows XP SP2.

1. Installed Kies - downloaded it from Samsung official site. Connected the device, it was not recognized.
Checked the software requirements of Kies application: .
Net Framework 3.5 SP1 or above, Windows Media Player 10 or above, DirectX 9.0C
* For Windows Mobile, ActiveSync (Windows XP) or Device Center (Windows Vista/7)

2.Updated my Windows XP - installed all the updates offered by the Windows Update program.
3. Installed Windows Media Player 11

After all the updates above Kies still didn't work. I decided to install ActiveSync 4.5 even if it was specified it is necessary only for Windows Mobile devices. I have also met some problems here:
Downloaded the setup.msi  from Microsoft official site. At the begin of the installation process, I have got the following error: "Error reading from file "setup.msi" verify that the file exists and you can access it". For several days I couldn't find a solution for this issue, till I came up with a forum where they said it was some problem with user access rights. So I copied the setup.msi into another folder, in my case it was the Desktop and BINGO! I managed to install ActiveSync 4.5. even if it did not helped me finally to connect the device. Well at this point I was totally desperate.

Analyzing all the provided solutions on the internet I could not resolve my problem. So as I was staying in front of my PC, staring at my device, my device USB cable, which was connected through an USB extension, I thought maybe I connect the USB cable directly to my PC. And my eyes couldn't believe it, the Device connected to Kies and YES I could synchronize my data.

Solution: Never connect your device USB cable through any extensions, instead connect it directly to your PC/Laptop.
